Senior Front Office Developer with a degree in computer
science and at least 5 years experience or a degree in
a scientific subject with at least 7 year's commercial
experience after graduation. Financial services industry
experience with particular knowledge of the Japanese markets
and related exchange technology is desirable although
not essential. Programming Language experience in one
of the following: C, C++, Tcl/Tk or Java. O/S Experience,
and a good knowledge of UNIX system level programming
and experience of Microsoft Windows environments as a
user is essential. Some knowledge of at least one major
RDBMS is required. Duties will include leading a group
of 2 to 3 developers working on new systems to support
current businesses and future electronic trading initiatives
as well as maintenance of existing trading platforms.
The split between development and support/maintenance
will vary but will generally be around 2/3rds development
and project management and1/3rd support. In common with
other financial services organizations, we work in a rapidly
changing environment meaning that flexibility is a basic
requirement, both in terms of the technology used and
day-to-day duties. Some out of hours working will be required
since it is often only possible to make changes to production
systems at these times.The vast majority of development
within the team takes place using C++ under UNIX and Java
on UNIX and Windows NT with a smaller amount written in
Perl. However, we do have some applications written in
other languages (e.g. MS Access) so a willingness to work
with these is vital. Also, it is possibility that some
native Windows NT development will take place in the future
using as yet undecided technology. Most of our applications
make use of SYBASE in one way or another with access being
via the RogueWave class libraries (C++/UNIX) and JDBC
(Java). We operate a mixed Windows NT and Sun Solaris
environment. The company is an early adopter of new technology
standards and has recently invested in Gigabit Ethernet,
Layer-3 switching, fibre channel and voice-over-IP equipment.
